08:00 - 17:00 SoGo Dublin Arts Festival
Dublin is poised to get a new taste of the city's vibrant arts scene and rich cultural heritage this summer with the announcement today of the inaugural SoGo Dublin Arts Festival.
A brand new three-day multi-disciplinary arts event, the SoGo Dublin Arts Festival will take place in the city's SoGo Quarter on the May bank holiday weekend from Friday April 30th until Sunday May 2nd.
The Festival will be located in the heart of Dublin, in the area increasingly known locally as the SoGo (after South Georges St) district - an area of Dublin 2 stretching from Stephens St to Dame Lane and Georges St to Clarendon St and will feature a (primarily) free and fun-filled programme of on-street and off-street events.
This is a beautiful part of the city with a unique mix of Dublin's best bars, boutiques, bookshops, cafes and restaurants. Featuring some of the capital's grooviest pubs, hippest night spots, chilled cafés and finest food emporiums SoGo is the perfect district for a Bank Holiday Festival which will revolve around all that is funky and happening in Dublin's homegrown music, art, food, fashion, film and street life.
The SoGo Dublin Arts Festival will have something for everyone including a wide range of arts events, street painting, discos for kids, busking, funky fashion and, as they say, the proverbial more - much more!
• Tug of War - Today FM take on Newstalk in a mighty battle of the presenters! • The Best of Busking with Mutefish, The Mighty Steph, Captain Magic, Hot Sprockets amongst playing in LeCirk. Saturday is reggae day while Sunday will have a more soulful vibe, with bluegrass and trad sessions • Once in Waltons – a screening of the fabulous Once in the music store championed in the movie • Controversial thinkers and talkers, Desmond Fennell, Finbarr Bradley, Conor Skehan are Heretics at the Odessa Club • Pimp My Art – guerrilla art: give your family portraits and dreary landscapes a rude awakening • Foodies Marc and Conor Bereen, the duo behind Coppinger Row and South William Bar, are coordinating a gastro-trail of all that is delicious in SoGo • The Big Breakfast with Declan O’ Regan from Le Geuleton • Buy and sell your wares at the Car Boot Sale in the eircom car park • Hear Trevor White, the man who founded The Dubliner magazine read from his new book ‘The Dubliner Diaries’ in The International. The author will be joined by three actors in this staged reading of a book that is scabrous, hilarious and poignant in equal parts. With gossip and anecdote about everyone from Philip Treacy to Bertie Ahern, Gayle Killilea to Michael Flatley, this is the ultimate record of Ireland in the boom years • Muzu TV will be streaming live webcams and broadcasting on screens in the SoGo area
